Half day guided walking tours in the Algarve

We organise a programme of 2 - 3 hour guided walks which changes monthly, everyone is very welcome to come along and there is no need to book. There is a charge of 5 euro for each walk which includes a donation to charity (we are actively sponsoring 3 children in third world countries).

               GUIDED WALKS

Wednesday March 3rd - Let's Walk to the Arade Barragem
This 2.5 hour circular walk will take you through the foothills and around to the Barragem which is full to overflowing!
10.30 am start meet at the Cafe Pescadores. From Silves take the road towards Messines, after 3km you pass an old factory on the right, 500m further on turn turn left towards Pinheiro and Garrado. After 300m the road bends left and the cafe is on the corner.

Saturday March 6th - Let's Walk from Purgatorio/Paderne
This is a great and really interesting walk on the Barrocal where the spring flowers should be appearing.
1.30pm start meet at Purgatorio. Take the A22 and then the IC1 towards Lisbon and exit for Tunes/Paderne. At the T junction turn right and follow the road for 5km passing under the motorway before meeting a main road. This is Purgatorio we start from here (there is a cafe 100m to the left).

Wednesday March 10th - Let's Walk from Monte Ruivo
This is an amazing 2.5 hour circular walk that will take you through unknown valleys and up onto the hilltops with great views to the sea. There is one short climb and the stream has to be crossed but there are stepping stones.
10.30am start meet at the cafe Belo Horizonte. Take the A22 and exit for Odiaxere/Mx Grande drive into Odiaxere and trun right at the lights in the centre. Follow the signs for the 'barragem' drive for about 5km and after passing a road to the left to Colinas Verdes the cafe is up on the right.

Wednesday March 17th - Let's Walk Rocha da Pena
The limestone escarpment of Rocha de Pena is a classic site for spring flowers and birds. This walk will take you up and along the escarpment and also through unknown countryside, 2.5 hours long.
10.30am start meet in the centre of Penina. Take the IC1 north and exit for Messines then follow the signs for Salir, pass by Alte and you come to Benafim. At the roundabout in Benafim go left direction Penina, the road goes up around to the right and after 200m there is a small road to the right for Penina. Drive into the village at meet at the small square at the entrance.

Saturday March 20th - Let's Walk from Arao
This is just a brilliant 2 hour walk through wild unspoilt landscapes, with one gentle climb.
1.30pm start meet at the cafe with no name. Exit A22 for Odiaxere/Mx Grande and drive towards Odiaxere on the EN125. after 200m turn right towards Arao and follow the road for about 3km. It passes under the A22 and soon after bends right over the river, the cafe is on the far end of the bridge on the corner. 

Wednesday March 24th - Let's Walk from Vila do Bispo
This walk will follow part of the Via Algarviana before passing back along the Sagres peninsula, this is a very easy walk 2.5 of hours and the flowers should be out along the way.
10.30am start meet at the 'mercado' in Vila do Bispo. Drive towards Sagres and take the second exit for Vila de Bispo, at the roundabout go straight over. At the next roundabout go left and the mercado is just there on the right.

Wednesday March 31st - Let's Walk from Nave de Barao  A quite amazing walk in this little oasis away from the maddening crowds. There is a climb up to walk along the ridge with spectacular views in all directions.
10.30am start - meet in the centre of Nave de Barao at the cafe (this has restaurant which is recommended for lunch). Exit the A22 for Boliqueime/Loule and follow signs for Loule. After passing the quarry turn left and at the t-junction go left. Now follow the road for about 10km when you pass through the village of Alto Fica, just after leaving the village there is a road to the right for Nave de Barao. Turn here and drive for about 1.5km into the village, cafe is on the right.

We can provide you with an exclusive walk guide with local extensive knowledge who can take you and your friends for a private walk ( 3 – 4 hours) in an area of your choice. They will be able to give you a direct insight into the lives and livelihoods of the local people (remember nearly 90% of the Algarve remains unspoilt and undeveloped).

Our charges for this are as follows:
1 – 4 people 80 euros
5 – 8 people 100 euros
