Arrival (30 minutes from Lisbon by express bus or 50 minutes by train).
Taxi transfer to start of walk. A circular walk from the historical village of Villa Nogueira de Azeitão that takes you through the Alto da Madelana to the woodlands along the margins of the Serra da Arrabida before returning through traditional hamlets. You can visit the famous Fonseca winery before your return to Setubal by local bus, 14km/ 8.5miles.
Taxi transfer for a circular walk begins and ends in the town of Palmela, famed for its castle, there will be plenty of time to visit the town and castle at the end of the walk. The route will take you along the Serra do Louro ridge, which is lined with windmills before returning via the village of Quinta do Anjo. Besides magnificent scenery with an interesting variety of flora and fauna you will pass the archaeological excavations of the Castelo Chibanes fort and on the edge of the village the Neolithic sepulchres hewn out of the local rock, return to Setubal by local bus, 13km/8miles.
Taxi transfer to and from this walk - the Serra de S. Luis and the Alcube river valley. This circular walk will take you around the magnificent S. Luis Mountain before dropping down to walk along the Alcube valley. The whole area is quite remote and there is every chance that you will see the rare birds and wild cats that the area is famous for! 16km/10miles.
